Jeffrey Harlig, Ph.D.,
founded Words@Work in 1998 to provide expertise to the private
sector for improving the crucial but often neglected area of
effective communication in organizations.
Jeff
earned his doctorate in linguistics, the science of human
communication, from the University of Chicago in 1989. He was on the
faculty of Indiana University, Bloomington, for nine years, teaching about
language structure, communication conflict, and minority rights. He is now
once again at IU, teaching diversity courses and coordinating
diversity education for the School of Social Work. At
Indiana University Jeff has received awards and grants for teaching and
instructional development, and was a minority student mentor. He has
published over 30 articles and book chapters and has lectured throughout
the United States and Europe. He produced and hosted the weekly diversity
news and interview program "Dateline: Diversity" on Bloomington
radio station WFHB. |
Jeff served on the Diversity Committee of the Human Resources
Association of Central Indiana (HRACI) for three years. He is a former VP for Communications
and newsletter editor with the American Society for Training and
Development, Central Indiana (CIASTD).
Jeff belongs to the American
Association for Applied Linguistics, where he has served on a committee to
promote understanding of minority language use in the United States. He
also represents AAAL to the Joint National Committee on Languages (JNCL)
in Washington, D.C.
